On March 24th, in Kathmandu, four active inspectors from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) have been removed from their positions. Inspector Suresh Khatri has been transferred to the Police Headquarters. Similarly, Inspector Ranjit Lama has been reassigned to the Police Chief's Office. Advocate Singh has been transferred to Nepal Police Armed Police Force Unit Number 1. Another inspector, Krishna Shrestha, has been reassigned to the Guard Unit.
Previously, Inspector Raju Adhikari, who was involved in the investigation of fake Bhutanese refugee cases, was assigned to the CIB. Inspector Gajendra Rawal from the Kathmandu Metropolitan Crime Investigation Office has also been given a new assignment at the CIB, where he is now recognized for his expertise in crime investigation and technical analysis.
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had submitted a report to Prime Minister Ravi Lamichhane and Deputy Prime Minister on Chaitra 1 regarding the investigation into gold smuggling. Following the recommendation of the commission led by former Justice Delhi Raj Acharya, including the departmental action against CIB AIG Kiran Bajracharya, SP Sanjay Singh Thapa, DSP Rudra Kunwar, and Durga Dahal, all were reassigned to the Police Chief's Office.
Additionally, based on recommendations that suggested the need for reassignment elsewhere due to involvement in investigations, the CIB also acted upon reassigning the inspectors according to the same recommendations.
According to CIB sources, an investigation into gold smuggling and other illegal activities, including the incident of gold smuggling through the Tribhuvan International Airport in June and July, involving over 60 kilograms of gold, had been conducted. The investigation revealed serious misconduct by CIB inspectors involved.
The commission, chaired by Acharya, had emphasized in its report that a thorough investigation into the serious errors made by CIB inspectors involved in the investigation was necessary.
