On Falgun 9th, in Kathmandu, the Supreme Court has issued an order in the name of the government to prevent the general public from being affected by the movement of VIPs (Very Important Persons) on the roads.
Attorney Jnaneshwar Koirala had filed a writ petition on February 19, 2074 BS, demanding action to stop the police from halting vehicular movement in the name of VIPs, preventing the public from crossing roads, and hindering pedestrians. He stated that the public suffers fines and inconvenience when they are stopped from using the roads under the pretext of VIP movement.
"By addressing the same request, the Supreme Court has issued an order in the name of the government not to impose fines on the public for crossing roads kept for VIP movements," he said. "The decision of the bench to issue the order after hearing arguments from both sides."
The written form of the order is yet to be received.
Despite alternative arrangements for security, the public being stopped on the roads for the movement of VIPs violates the freedom of citizens, Koirala had filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court.
In response to the writ petition, the government had stated that it had stopped the public for the security of very important persons as per the 'Security Policy for VIPs 2077.' After explaining that the security reasons were shown for stopping the movement, the government had written that it would not make public the security measures.
The Supreme Court has ordered not to obstruct the general public on the roads in the name of VIP movement. Since the written details of the order have not been made public, lawyer Koirala has explained the perspective of the bench based on the information available.
